Travelling to Oulu

Traveling to Oulu by air: Oulu airport is located 15 km from the city center. There are frequent daily direct flights operated by Finnair between Helsinki and Oulu.

Traveling to Oulu by train: You can also choose to hop on a train to reach Oulu. The travel time is approximately 6 hours (from Helsinki) depending on the train: VR – Finnish railways

Transportation in Oulu

Oulu is a small city and it is easily walkable if you have your accommodation downtown. If you are in the suburbs, the best option is that you use public transportation (bus). If you are brave enough, you could also rent a bike. Oulu is one of the cities in Europe with the best cycling path network. Yes, we bike also in winter! Some hotels offer bikes to their guests.

Reaching Oulu City Center from the airport

You have two options:

Bus numbers 8 and 9. You should buy an A-B ticket. The price is €4.05 if you pay using contactless payment/app or €5.80 if you pay by cash. Bus 8 is quicker than 9. These are the nearest bus stops to Hotel Lasaretti:

Line 8: Pokkitörmä

Line 9: Franzen

Taxi. You can order a taxi beforehand (the driver will wait for you at the exit) or you can take one of the taxis waiting outside the airport. If there are no taxis: inside the airport, there is a phone you can use to call one. The address of Hotel Lasaretti is Kasarmintie 13b 90130.

Bus information

All information about buses including timetables, routes, tickets, and fares can be found on the Public bus service website. You can also download the OSL App, which can be used to check bus routes and buy tickets.

Oulu is divided into several zones. If you are moving inside Oulu, and you use some of the minibuses, you are in the “Lähi” zone.  For the rest of the buses in the Oulu area (including the University campus), you will be in zone A. If you are coming from or going to the airport, you should buy an A-B ticket.

You can buy tickets in 3 different ways:

  • Use the Contactless payment option on your credit card (including Google/Apple Pay). Note that you can buy only a ticket for yourself using this option.
  • Use the OSL App. You can buy several tickets (even for kids) with this option.
  • Pay in cash on the bus or using some of the ticket machines (there is one at the airport). Please, notice that prices are considerably more expensive than in the other two options.

Taxi information

You can pick up a taxi only for the official taxi stops located downtown and marked with Taxi signs. Taxis do not stop while they are circulating the road. In addition, you can download the mobile app of any of the taxi companies operating in the Oulu area: OTaxi, FixuTaxi,  Meneva, and Halpataxi. Your hotel usually also calls a taxi if you need it.

Accomondation

The event venue is Nordic Art Hotel Lasaretti, an old provincial hospital area located on the beautiful island of Lasaretinsaari, which is very close to the city center. Lasaretti’s rooms overlook the Oulujoki River and the park-like yard of the former county hospital’s historical building, which was constructed in 1849. The hotel itself was completed in the 1920s. All sessions will be held at Lasaretti. The address of Hotel Lasaretti is Kasarmintie 13b 90130.

We have reserved a limited number of rooms in the venue (Nordic Art Hotel Lasaretti) and will share a booking code via email. The prices include a buffet breakfast in the restaurant and the use of the hotel’s customer sauna and gym. Free WiFi is available on the hotel’s territory. Parking is free of charge to hotel guests, but you have to check in at reception within 10 minutes after parking to be registered to the parking system. Bookings can be done via e-mail (lasaretti@lasaretti.com) or telephone.

You can also consider alternative accommodation options. Please note that the meeting organization does not handle hotel bookings and attendees should arrange their accommodations. Please note that Lapland Hotels Oulu will be closed for renovations.
