Oshani Weerakoon

Oshani Weerakoon

I graduated with a master’s in software engineering from the University of Turku and am currently a project researcher at the Software Engineering Unit, Department of Computing. Since the summer of 2023, I have been investigating the practical applications of recent Generative AI models in pedagogy. We have successfully applied our findings to the pedagogical work within the unit.

My doctoral research seeks to investigate how recent advancements in Generative AI, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), can influence practices within requirements engineering in software companies.

The primary objective is to explore whether further value can be added to current requirements engineering practices by utilizing the capabilities of recent LLMs that have been trained on trillions of data points. The research will adopt a qualitative exploratory methodology, drawing insights from the current requirements engineering practices of a selected group of software companies to support the model’s customization in line with the research goals. Additionally, my previous experience as a software business analyst will contribute to this research.

Prospect plan of my research:

I am actively seeking software companies interested in collaborating with me for Phase 1(gathering) and Phase 3(testing) of the research on to ensure the research outcomes align with industry expectations. Feel free to write to me at oshani.s.weerakoon@utu.fi, if you are curious to know what’s happening in Phase 2! 😉
